Italy Inspired Travel Journal
Dates: September 25 - October 1, 2011
Instructor/Leader: Kristin Steiner
Cost: $2850
Trip Description
Join Kristi as we explore the breathtaking hilltop town of Orvieto, Italy. Walk along pathways and cobblestone streets, framed by handsome Medieval and Renaissance buildings. Stop to admire the olive orchards and sweeping vineyards unfolding in the bucolic landscape. Smell the cappuccino waiting for us as we stroll into the heart of town. Sit outside a small cafe and sip a glass of crisp Orvieto Classico wine as the sun sets in a blaze over the piazza.
In this week of discovery, you will:
Enjoy an olive oil tasting, sampling oils from the region.
Tour a beautiful vineyard, seeing first hand how wine is made, and
tasting wine which has been made with “soul."
Join a renowned chef in his kitchen as he explains the art of Italian
cuisine. Jump into the fun as you roll out pasta, and then sit down
to dine on the many dishes you've created.
Explore ancient Etruscan caves to learn about this fascinating
civilization inhabiting Orvieto from 800 B.C.
Enhance your week by creating a uniquely personal travel journal. Keeping a journal is easy and wonderfully rewarding, especially when inspired by a sojourn to the beautiful Italian countryside. Each moment is celebrated by the small act of brief writing. Experiences are embellished by adding ticket stubs, dinner receipts, maps, and wine labels to the pages of your journal. Even the most humble of drawings serve to anchor this stunning location in your memory forever.
Kristi offers her gentle teaching style as you:
Construct a journal made especially for this trip. A kit of materials is
provided.
Master techniques to bring the textures and colors of Italy to the
pages of your journal.
Combine fabric, lace, paper, and paint to create pages filled with
luscious layers.
Explore numerous ideas for adding details and personal meaning to
each page.
Learn journal prompts to encourage the use of every sense, resulting
in a travel journal exploding with the tastes, smells, sights and
sounds of Orvieto.
This is journaling at its easiest and freest form. This class is perfect for the beginner or any experience level. All you need is a sense of adventure!

Meet Kristin
Kristin has been in love with fabric, journaling and creativity since she was a tiny girl. Her passion for self-expression led her to the quilt world where she's created, designed, taught and written about quilts nationally
for 30 years. In her books, A Southern
Album and At Piece with Time: a Woman's Journey Stitched in Cloth, Kristin encourages other women to celebrate their unique story by
documenting it in cloth.
For the last 10 years, Kristin has
been absorbed in the “altered” world. She finds visual journaling exactly
what she's been looking for. Her work
is featured in The Art of Fabric Books and in Altered Board Books and Beyond, both by Jan Smiley. Her art graced the cover of the Spring 2006 issue of Cloth Paper and Scissors magazine. She taught at Artfest and
at Artfiberfest in both 2006 and 2007, and at the Oxford Summer School in England in 2007 - 2010.
Kristin adores teaching anything to do with the creative process. Her most earnest wish is that we each uncover the genuine creative genius residing deep within, then give it life through
our work. Visit www.kristinsteiner.com to learn more.
