Italia Ispirato
Journal Painting a Sojourn

Dates: September 12 - 18, 2010
Instructor/Leader:
Tracie and Marylin Huskamp
Cost - $2775

Trip Description
Journal your journey in Italy on individual art pieces, suitable for framing!

Come on a wondrous journey where we will weave experiences and words together through paint and collage. During this week-long workshop, students will capture the magnificent beauty of Orvieto by creating artworks combining nature inspired images and personal
journal writings to chronicle memorable moments of this fabled sojourn to Italy.

Tracie and Marylin generously share their secrets for bringing the cherished experiences and the breathtaking surroundings of this ancient Italian hilltop town to life through paint, collage, and journal entries. The result is stunning "art pages" imbued with the colors and textures of Orvieto, as well as new found skills for use in future journals.

In additional, you will:
• Work with photographs taken on walks through the landscapes of Orvieto. Then transform your photo images into hand painted commemorative art.
• Learn a fast and easy way of drawing photo images onto muslin canvas. (NO DRAWING SKILLS ARE REQUIRED!)
• Use these sketches on canvas as a guide to bringing a drawing to life.
• Work with and mix acrylic paints to further develop these illustrated subjects.
• Learn how to extract painted subjects from their original canvas substrate, providing options for placing elements onto a completely different background. This offers great potential for future artwork.
• Explore unique methods for distressing muslin canvas to turn a plain background into a work of art.

No experience needed - just a sense of adventure!
