Creating Your Atlas of Experience

Dates: September 26 - October 2, 2010
Instructor/Leaders:
Patti Digh and David Robinson
Cost - $3025

"An atlas never just shows you where you are, where you want to go and how to get there. It also fires the imagination. Maps which chart rivers, mountains, towns, countries, far-away regions, oceans, and continents can arouse intense feelings. An atlas combines reality and fantasy.” Louise van Swaaij and Jean Klare, The Atlas of Experience

Trip Description
During this weeklong workshop, participants will explore their own personal geographies - how you participate in creating the landscape of your life, how you share that landscape with others, and where you want to map your future. You will leave the workshop with an atlas of your experience.

Using the serene backdrop and sensory stimulation of Orvieto, this unique retreat will explore these questions through the visual arts and writing:
     •
How do I locate myself in the world? How does that serve me and
      how does that limit me?

What are the patterns of my life and how do they determine what I
see and where I can go?

     •
It is said that “wisdom sits in places.” What is the wisdom of the
     place in which I sit?

Is this a workshop only for artists and writers?
Not at all. We’ll do reflective exercises that involve writing and some arts processes, but we welcome people who like to read, or bake, or sleep late, or crochet small giraffes, engineers, kayakers, you name it. The only prerequisite for attending is that you are human. Period. Okay, well, perhaps human with a sense of humor. That’s it. All are welcomed.

Patti & David in other's words
Patti and David are a dynamite team with so much wisdom & power between them. Their training is like taking a personal & collective journey to a place where innate knowledge is illuminated into new ways of seeing ourselves and others. Teresa, Portland, Oregon

My experience with the retreat was absolutely magical!  Patti’s wry humor, intelligence and expertise, combined with David’s brilliant ability to facilitate learning through stories and theatrical games, created an environment in which I felt completely at ease. I was inspired and motivated to explore deeply within my own heart and mind.
Janna, Asheville, North Carolina

It was like following the yellow brick road. There was a sense of expectation that made me wonder what would come next….When the journey was over, I wished that it had not ended. And it was the journey itself that made me grow, exposing so many layers I had to think about again and again. The most beautiful part of the whole experience was how our two guides made sure everybody was involved and included, graciously and effortlessly.
