Art as Inner Landscape

Dates: October 5 - 11, 2008
Instructor/Leader:
Roger Bryant

Trip Description
On this trip you will explore Orvieto, experience its richness and be invited to respond creatively to it. This is a unique opportunity to spend time on yourself - to look at your life as it is and as it has been, to gain some understanding of what has happened to you in the past and to consider how you want to fashion your future. Roger’s course offers the chance to do this by responding to the stimulus provided by Orvieto in a creative way, and then using that creativity as a tool for self discovery. In a safe and supportive environment you will be able to discover the meanings behind your personal creative expressions.

You will use the stunning frescoes in Orvieto's Duomo - The San Brizio Chapel as a starting point for your creativity. This will enable you to explore and discover meanings behind our creative expressions, with art used as a therapeutic tool for self discovery. Each morning we shall meet together in the studio to create art work that has been inspired by our contact with the culture of Orvieto, as well as by our night dreams, imagination, and our own life experience and personal issues.

Adding to the cultural adventures of the week is “Orvieto con Gusto” - the Orvieto Slow Food Festival. Restaurants have “slow food” menus, there is a food fair and other events to inspire and enjoy!

This trip is for arist and nonartist alike.

Meet
Roger Bryant

Roger passionately believes that all adults can be creative, a natural process which many people seem to have misplaced during their journey from childhood into adulthood. His special interest is in the inner world of images and how to use images therapeutically. In his own life he uses dreams, drawing, painting, poetry, story writing and wood carving, to explore his inner world. His garden is full of his large wooden carvings ~ they threaten to take over!

Roger is a psychotherapist working with young people and adults from his private practice near Oxford, England. Having spent a good part of his life working for a large company, he did a complete about turn 15 years ago, to retrain as a therapist, a move which changed his life completely.

Roger holds an MA and Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and has a Transpersonal, Jungian, Psychodynamic and Art Therapy background with extensive experience of running both day and week workshops. His courses are for those who consider themselves artists and those who do not.
