Journaling the Journey
Dates: May 11- 17, 2008
Instructor/Leader: Kristin Steiner
Trip Description
Make your dreams come true as you join Kristin in Orvieto, Italy! Kristin has been traveling to this magical hilltop town for years, with her journal always in hand. Come along for an adventure in journal making and journal keeping as you explore the history, the culture and the art of this beautiful town.
The goal of this tour is to expose you to experiences not available to the casual traveler, using these as inspiration for an exceptional journal.
* Tour an historic vineyard, and hear the passion of wine making.
* Learn how the culture of wine has influenced this fertile area.
* Take a cooking class and discover the importance of simple local
ingredients to this artful cuisine.
* Gain a deeper understanding of Italian culture through discussions
led by leaders of the Slow City organization.
* Visit area artisans in their studios.
* Enjoy the delights of Market Day.
These authentic experiences provide meaningful inspiration to be captured in your travel journal. In our own studio we will experiment daily with mixed media techniques, turning a written journal into a creative textural explosion of color.
* Construct the journal itself from simple, innovative supplies.
* Learn techniques to create texture and add luscious color.
* Discover layout ideas, inspired by Orvieto's art and architecture.
* Add ephemera for dimension and to vividly record memories.
* Scout the city for treasures and supplies to add to your journal.
This exceptional opportunity offers a small group experience filled with in-depth encounters, understanding of the real Italy, and Kristin's gentle guidance in creating a most personal, memory filled journal recording all your travels! No experience necessary. Can't wait to have you join me.

Meet Kristin Steiner
Kristin has been in love with fabric, journaling and creativity since she was a tiny girl. Her passion for self-expression led her to the quilt world where she's created, designed, taught and written about
quilts nationally
for 30 years. In her
books, A Southern
Album and At
Piece with Time:
a Woman's
Journey Stitched in
Cloth, Kristin
encourages other
women to celebrate
their unique story by
documenting it in cloth.
For the last 6 years, Kristin has been absorbed in the “altered” world. She finds visual journaling exactly what she's been looking for. Her work is featured in The Art of Fabric Books and in Altered Board Books and Beyond, both by Jan Smiley. Her art graced the cover of the Spring 2006 issue of Cloth Paper and Scissors magazine. She taught at Artfest and at Artfiberfest in both 2006 and 2007, and at the Oxford Summer School in England in 2007, where she has been asked to return in 2008.
Kristin adores teaching anything to do with the creative process. Her most earnest wish is that we each uncover the genuine creative genius residing deep within, then give it life through our work. Go to www.kristinsteiner.com to learn more.
